Quarter 1: Independent Reading

  • You are recommended to read at least two different genres this quarter.
  • Read two to three books minimum, approx. 450 pgs. minimum.
  • Give an oral book advertisement. See this document link, Preparing-for-Book-Advertisement  for directions to help you prepare for your ad, and the Book-ad-rubric to help you see what you will want to do to be fully prepared with your best quality.
  • See this link for ideas for book reviews.
  • Write a book response in class on your reading response and notes sheet each day we read in class.
  • Keep your reading log up to date on your blog.
  • Write a response to your independent reading book: summary and theme.

Quarter 2: Independent Reading

You are recommended to expand the genres your reading to read at least one different genre during this quarter other than last quarter. One of the books you read this quarter you will read with a partner, and the book’s theme will relate to government.

Quarter 3: Independent Reading

You are recommended to read a book in at least one different genre during this quarter other than you did the previous quarter.

Quarter 4: Independent Reading

You are recommended to read a book in at least one different genre during this quarter other than you did during the previous quarters.

  • Read a minimum of four or five independent reading books or 600 pgs. minimum.
  • Your activity should be based on your chosen independent reading book from this quarter.
  • Write book responses in your journal during reading period in class.
  • Keep your reading log up to date on your Google Spreadsheet.
  • You are recommended to read at least two different genres this quarter.
  • Write a response to your independent reading book: summary and theme.
